Brevo review: pricing, pros and cons, and who it is for

A multi-channel marketing and transactional messaging platform priced by email volume instead of contact count, with a permanent free tier.

Our verdict

Priced on emails sent rather than contacts, which makes it the economical choice for a big list that mails rarely, and it adds SMS and a light CRM. Less attractive for high-frequency senders and for anyone who wants best-in-class automation.

Who Brevo is for

Best for
  • transactional plus marketing email in one
  • large contact lists with modest sending
  • SMS and WhatsApp campaigns
  • low-cost automation
Not ideal for
  • high-volume senders between 50K and 150K emails a month
  • creators who mainly need newsletter design

Primary use case: Sending marketing and transactional email (plus SMS and WhatsApp) for businesses that store many contacts but send moderately. Typical users: Small business, Ecommerce store, SaaS / startup, Agency.

Pros and cons

Pros
  • Unlimited contacts on the free and low tiers make it cheap for large, low-frequency lists
  • Transactional and marketing email under one account and API
  • Entry pricing is among the lowest for automation (Standard at $18)
  • Multi-channel (SMS, WhatsApp, push) without switching vendors
Cons
  • The gap between Standard ($18) and Professional ($499) is enormous; mid-sized senders have little middle ground
  • Removing the Brevo logo on Starter is an extra charge
  • CRM and sales features are add-ons, not part of the marketing plans
  • Deliverability on shared IPs is only as good as the shared pool; dedicated IP is Enterprise-only

Key features

  • Email campaigns priced by monthly send volume
  • Transactional email via SMTP and API on every plan
  • Marketing automation workflows on Standard and up
  • SMS and WhatsApp messaging (credits sold separately)
  • Built-in sales CRM (Sales Essentials/Advanced add-ons)
  • Forms, landing pages and web tracking
  • AI content and send-time optimization
  • Pay-as-you-go email credits that do not expire

Ease of use: Campaign creation is simple and the free plan onboarding is quick, but sending approval and the add-on structure add friction.
